Aum chanting can get the creative juices flowing on those mental block days!
‘OM’ is sometimes written and pronounced as ‘AUM’.
The sound of ‘AUM’ symbolizes the primordial vibration (i.e. the sound of creation).
It’s the universe’s most fundamental form of existence.
Believed to be pulsating energy, known as ‘vibrations’.
Every ‘thing’ (living and non-living) that we see or feel is a vibration, including our bodies, the organs and our emotions.
1. What is Aum (OM) made of?
Three sounds made of syllable ‘A-U-M‘
These sounds stand for three significant triads – awareness, speech, and action; the three qualities of matter – goodness, passion, and darkness; and the three sacred Vedic texts – Rigveda, Yajurveda, and Samaveda.
Let’s understand the connection between the sound, Creator, its connection to the body and its aspects:
| Sound | Connection to Creation | Connection to the Body | Aspects of the Body |
| ‘A’ invokes | Brahma | Physical world (a waking state or conscious state of mind) | Soul – the past, present, future |
| ‘U’ invokes | Vishnu | Emotions (a dreaming state or unconscious state of mind) | Energies – creation, conservation, transformation |
| ‘M’ invokes | Shiva | Deepest layers of the mind (the deep sleep state) | Spirit – immortality, omniscience, elation |
Let’s understand aspects of creation, its nature and the significance:
| Aspects of Creation | Nature | Significance |
| Brahma | Creator | without which nothing exists |
| Vishnu | Preserver | with which everything is sustained |
| Shiva | Destroyer | all things dissolve back into the void |
Beyond these three states is the SILENCE that follows.
This silence is a pure state of consciousness beyond waking, dreaming, and deep sleep.

Health Tonic for the Body: The ‘A’ starts from the base of your navel creating vibrations that can boost your immunity and digestion. ‘U’ generating from the centre of the ribcage up to the centre of the heart strengthens your heart muscles and spine, improves the posture, and reduce back pain. ‘M’ generating from base of the throat up to the top of the head relieves sinuses, stimulates throat and pituitary gland.
3. Effects of Aum Chanting
Om chanting is a journey to connect deeper to the primordial vibration if only practiced consistently.
Interestingly, group chanting amplifies the effects by producing immense positive vibrations, charging the universe. Tuning into this frequency helps us connect with ourselves and the universe on deeper levels, creating a sense of belonging.
But the magic comes after the chanting!
The greatest yogis recommend to | pause at the end of your chanting | sit in silence | experience that creative void | witness the calm of ‘AUM’ through the body.
